Krista’s achievements extend beyond academics. Weems Memorial Hospital embarked on an exciting collaboration with the Foundation for Hospital Art, local students, and community members to create beautiful, hand-painted ceiling tiles. This initiative, focused on butterfly-themed tiles, aims to bring comfort and healing through art. The project is part of a broader effort to create a positive atmosphere within the hospital for both patients and staff.
John Feight, founder of the Foundation for Hospital Art, has long advocated for the therapeutic benefits of art in healthcare. The tiles have been installed in various areas of the hospital, enhancing the environment and creating a sense of calm for all who visit. “The joy these art projects bring to hospitals is truly special,” said Feight.

Weems Memorial Hospital continues its mission to provide exceptional care by partnering with the University of South Florida for a specialized training course focused on obstetrical emergencies. The training, which aims to enhance the skills of our medical team in handling critical childbirth situations, emphasizes early identification of complications and best practices for managing complex emergencies, including postpartum hemorrhage and hypertensive disorders.
This proactive approach reinforces Weems’ ability to serve the community, ensuring that our staff is well-equipped to provide top-tier care, no matter the challenge. “This training enhances the confidence of our team and directly benefits the community,” said Courtney Alford, Chief Nursing Officer. On June 12th, Weems Memorial Hospital had the pleasure of welcoming back Lexi Bresnan, marking 25 years since she was born unexpectedly early at the hospital. Lexi, now thriving as the education director at Homewood Theatre in Alabama, was joined by her mother Judy and family in celebrating the special anniversary in the very place where her life began. The dedicated team at Weems, including a nurse with prior labor and delivery experience, ensured Lexi’s safe arrival before transferring her to higher care. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our team,” said CEO David Walker. “Stories like Lexi’s remind us why we do what we do – to care for our community, residents, and visitors alike.” Lexi, whose middle name is “Bay” in honor of the area, recently got engaged on St. George Island and plans to marry there. The event was also covered by WMBB Ch. 13, which aired a touching feature on Lexi’s return. Watch the Segment.
