According to the Florida Department of Revenue, a one cent sales tax for all of
Franklin County will generate approximately 2 million dollars in revenue for the
county’s health care. With those funds the county can fulfill the ever growing
medical needs of this community. Based on other counties with similar sales tax
additions, over 60% of the proceeds comes from tourist dollars.
The first use of the sales tax proceeds will be to develop a new Medical Office Complex with Diagnostic Radiology and Laboratory Services in |
Carrabelle. This new facility, scheduled to open in 2009, will serve as an urgent
care clinic. The second use of proceeds will be a replacement facility for the current Weems Hospital. A rendering of the planned 45,000 square foot facility is below. Special consideration will be given to protect the Critical Access Hospital status. This new 25 bed facility will house state-of-the-art medical equipment and will be ready for service in 2011. |
The third purpose of the sales tax will be the recruitment of additional Primary
Care and Specialty Physicians.
The fourth use of proceeds will serve to provide ongoing support of the Hospital and Ambulance operations. Lastly, the sales tax should provide for ongoing Capital Equipment additions and replacements. Make these plans a reality, vote yes for healthcare. |
